Debate Competition

A Debate Competition was held on 1st December 2023 in the second half for the final year students as part of Prastuti’23 by the Information Technology Department of Future Institute of Engineering and Management. The topic of the debate was “Offline classes and labs are necessary in acquiring a degree in Engineering”. The final-year students were informed the topic 15 minutes before the commencement of the debate competition. All the faculties of the department available at that time, attended the programme. Students slowly opened up and shared their logic with careful presentation. They tried to perform as much as possible. The topic made them enthusiastic to speak in support or against the motion. Some of the students performed very well. Saurabh Patel stood first, Namrata Saha stood second, Tiasha Ghosh stood third. The better performers were identified. At the end of the event, the winners were given medals by the senior faculties of the department.


Online Alumni Meet

An online alumni meet was held on November 10th, 2023 as part of Prastuti’23 for the Final year and 3rd-year students of the Information Technology Department of Future Institute of Engineering and Management. Few alumni of the department having diverse professional experiences, and placed in reputed companies in the Software Industry, spent more than two hours explaining campus preparation tips to their juniors. Their invaluable insights and success stories showed the path for the aspiring graduates, offering them a glimpse into the real-world dynamics of their respective industries. All faculties of the IT Department attended the session. Many questions were asked to the alumni and these questions were answered with utmost care and willingness. Prof. Prosenjit Mukherjee, conducted the session very efficiently. He actively participated in the questionnaire section of the session and asked some very important and relevant questions. The session was very informative for all the students and the faculties present. The session acted as a bridge between classroom learning and the world of software professionals nurturing a deeper understanding of the skills and attributes sought after by prospective employers. The Department is willing to arrange more such online and offline sessions in the future.


5-day FDP on Advancements in AI & ML: A Hands-on Approach

The Departments of Information Technology and Computer Science Engineering (Data Science) are organizing “5-day FDP on Advancements in AI & ML: A Hands-on Approach” in collaboration with the International ‘Centre of Excellence’ for Data Science, AI and Futuristic Technologies, Dept. of Higher Education, Govt. of West Bengal from 3rd January- 9th January (3-5, 8-9).
In this 5-day faculty development programme, participants will learn about the theoretical details of this domain. In the hands-on sessions, they will practically use the algorithms and advance technologies: generative AI, deep learning, computer vision, natural language processing etc.

Faculties of IT and CSE(DS) Department will attend this program with few faculties from the Future Institute of Technology. Few selected (by respective HoDs of the Departments) faculty members of CSE, ECE, CA and EE Departments of FIEM will also be able to attend this program.


Newsletter - "IT Insights"

The Information Technology Department of FIEM, Kolkata, has published the departmental newsletter "IT Insights" for this year on 30th November, 2023. It contains details of the technical events held this year, achievements of students and faculties, placement statistics of the department, technical write ups from the faculties and industry experts, thought from alumni, quiz section, topper list etc. Prof. Subhasis Mitra and Prof. Ishani Das have worked very hard for this newsletter. Srinjoy Ghosh of IT 3rd year has done an excellent job almost single handedly. Throughout the process, faculties of the department have contributed a lot. Respected principal Sir has provided valuable suggestions and guided till the last moment before publishing it.

Academic Coding & Project Innovation

The software industry is currently fueled by innovative coders and project-driven initiatives. Recognizing the significance of this, the Information Technology Department at Future Institute of Engineering and Management organized several impactful events this semester. Notably, Prastuti'23 focused on campus preparation for final-year students, Prakaushal'23 featured a project competition using Java for 3rd-year students, Prakaushal'23 also hosted a project competition utilizing Python for 2nd-year students, and CodEXcellence'23 centered around a coding competition using Java for 3rd-year students. The culmination of these events took place on November 7th and 8th, where exceptional participants were acknowledged with medals and certificates. The department takes immense pride in discovering and nurturing promising talents, and the success of the winners serves as an inspiration for their peers, motivating them to excel in upcoming events.


PRAKAUSAL'23

The Information Technology Department of FIEM recently held a project competition called PRAKAUSAL'23 in October 2023 to showcase the talent and creativity of its 3rd-year students. The students used Java to create their projects, and the department's teachers meticulously assessed them, providing valuable feedback that enhanced the educational aspect of the competition. This project competition served as a learning opportunity for the 3rd-year students, helping them improve their technical skills and presentation abilities. Looking ahead to the next Prakaushal in 2023, we are excited about the potential and possibilities for our future technologists and innovators.


3-Day Workshop Cyber Security Applications 2023

Cyber Security is s broad aspect in which various computer security mechanisms are included. Ethical Hacking is subpart of cyber security and an authorized practice of detecting vulnerabilities in an application, system or organization’s infrastructure and bypassing system security to identify potential data breaches and threats in a network. This three days’ workshop is hosted with the prime intention of both theoretical and hands on session to familiarize and explore the topics discussed.


2-Day National Seminar 2022

The two-day seminar on the Journey of the IT Profession and New Opportunities held on 7th and 8th April 2022 was a huge success. It was conducted by the faculty and students of the IT and Computer Application Department. On 7th April, the discussion panel was conducted with seven highly-placed students, Prof Tapas Ray, HOD CS Dept, Prof Prosenit Mukherjee Asst Professor, IT Department and Prof Dr. Anirban Chakrabarty, HOD Dept. of Comp Application Dept. The entire program was streamed online, making it accessible to all. It was an amazing event to witness, giving us a glimpse into the future of the IT profession.


DIKSHANT’22

DIKSHANT’22 is an event organised by the IT department of Future Institute of Engineering and Management on 10th of June 2022. It is a farewell program for the 4th year students of IT department which will be full of fun and memories. The event will involve several activities where the 4th year students will be able to take part in various games and other competitions. The event will also include a farewell dinner, dance and many more fun activities. The event is sure to be an unforgettable experience for the 4th year students of IT department. It will be the perfect way for them to say goodbye to their college life and prepare for the new adventures ahead.


Pre Placement Training Programme Prastuti

Prastuti, a pre-placement program for B.Tech IT students of Future Institute of Engineering and Management Sonarpur, was conducted on March 9th, 2022. The program was aimed at preparing the students for their upcoming placement drives and was organized by the faculty members of the IT Department. The program covered a wide range of topics such as Data Structure and Algorithm, DBMS, etc. technical skills along with communication skills to equip the students with the knowledge and tools required for their professional careers. The faculty members shared their expertise and experiences with the students, providing valuable insights and guidance. Prastuti was a great opportunity for the students to learn and develop themselves for their future careers.
